Teaser Tuesday: Moth snippet

Just a tiny snippet from BEAUTIFUL GHOSTS, as I've spent the last hour doing some revisions on Moth's sadly neglected novel. I haven't touched it for (what feels like) ages - it's good to get back to my girl. :)

---

I stood under cover of the stone entrance porch and waited for Byron to tell the other kids what was going on. He was furious that he hadn’t been allowed to see Russell - or 'Red' as he had been known since his Awakening as a supposed vampire.

If only I was wearing my shades so I could let loose and roll my eyes at all the clichés flying around. Sure, it was sad that Russell/Red was dead, but I’d never managed to get my head around the whole Otherkin scene. I wished I could visit a bunch of high schools and give talks about why it was seriously Not Cool to be a vampire.

It would be like sex education, only more practical.

Website: Fail! and a Teaser (for Tuesday)

Wonder Woman
Okay, so again... apologies to anyone who changed my link on their website/blog to the new WordPress address, and has now had to change it back. I admit that I messed up (stupidly) when trying to download my WP files and upload them to my sparkly new domain name. But then I got really pissed off slightly frustrated and deleted the WP blog before I was certain things were saved properly. *ahem* I had a weird day yesterday. It started out pretty good (and I wrote lots), but there were Other Things that knocked my equilibrium and I took it out on my in-progress-website. Technology is such an easy target. ;)

Actually, it turns out that it's not all my fault, as my domain name (www.karenmahoney.net) has just... *poof!* disappeared (completely randomly) from the control panel of my web hosting company. They are looking into it right now. So, I'll be starting from scratch with a website when I have the time/patience/inclination. This time I think I'll stick with HTML. I've gone off WordPress. Or maybe I'll just pay a professional one day, when I am published.

And now, as it's Tuesday - and St. Patrick's Day (have a good one!) - I will celebrate by giving you a teaser. Just a tiny snippet from yesterday's writing. Nothing fancy...

Here, under the cut... )

First of all, a public service announcement: The Twitter experiment has come to an end. Rather short-lived, I'm afraid. It's fun, but there's no way I can keep up with everyone's tweets - and that's the most interesting part of it for me... Seeing what other people are up to and chatting with them. When it comes to my own entries, I'd rather just write a blog post. So I've deleted my account. Goodbye, Twitter! I can console myself with the fact that I contributed to drawing [info]brian_ohio over to the Dark Side. *cue evil laughter*

Here's a tiny snippet of TWQ (can't post much as it's a sequel & could be spoilery):

Last night I woke at dawn with the duvet thrown off, pyjamas sticking to my body and my sweat-soaked hair tangled around my face. My hands and arms ached, and I knew that if I looked at them the silver markings would be writhing around my wrists like living tattoos. I tried to remember what I’d been dreaming of – what nightmare had woken me this time – but the sights and sounds and twisted images were already gone. Melted away like the snow outside my bedroom window.

I have to run - critiquing to do and I'm already late with it. Have a great day - I look forward to reading other teasers... :)

The unknown road stretches ahead...

This is how I feel today:

Not only does the pic represent where I'm at with the synopsis of BLACK NEON DREAMS, it's actually a pretty good snapshot of something that happens in the novel. (If anyone makes jokes like, "What? A girl sits on the floor in a corridor? Boor-ing!" I will not be pleased. *g*)

I got stuck yesterday and decided to take a break. Except the break turned into me writing another 1,000 words of the actual manuscript. *rolls eyes* I'm supposed to be writing the synopsis, dammit!

10235 / 60000 words. 17% done!

Sample: He leaned back and folded his hands in his lap. His golden hair shone under the circular lights fixed into the ceiling at regular intervals, and for the first time I noticed there were flecks of silver woven among the strands. As he smiled, his high cheekbones shifted and fine lines appeared beneath those strange eyes. He was working hard at looking human today, and I couldn’t help wondering whether that indicated good things or bad.
